Artist of the Month Virtual Exhibit
SDL's Artist of the Month Program
Our community is fortunate to have many talented artists. Sanilac District Library invites local artists who live in SDL's service area of Sanilac Township and the Carsonville-Port Sanilac School District to exhibit their artwork for everyone's enjoyment. Every month a different local artist is featured.
Art Exhibit Policy & Procedure
Each month the library features the work of one local artist. In April, the Library invites all artists who live within the Sanilac District Library service area, to display one work to be exhibited for the entire month. Since these exhibits are seen by anyone who enters the library, children and adults who may have various degrees of sophistication, the materials of the exhibit must therefore meet what is generally known as “a standard acceptable to the community” or "family friendly".
Application for exhibits must be made with the Library Director. The Library shall have the final decision on the content and arrangement of all exhibits. Every item must meet the Library’s standard of value and quality and the Library reserves the right to reject any part of an exhibit or to change the manner of display. If a patron disputes what is allowed to be displayed, he/she may appeal to the Library Board of Trustees in writing. The decision of the Library Board is final.
The Artist of the Month exhibit features two-dimensional works of art. Artwork must be framed and ready to hang over a 1/2 inch metal hook.
Artists may display a price on the artwork, if it is available for sale. Sanilac District Library will give an interested buyer the artist's contact information so that the transaction may be taken care of privately.
Three-dimensional art must be small enough to fit inside the display case. Library staff will arrange exhibits.
Photographs of the artwork may be exhibited on the library website with the artist's permission.
The Library assumes no liability in the event of damage, destruction or theft of an exhibited work. All reasonable effort is made to protect artwork. The Library will not provide storage for the property on display or exhibited. The library does not have space to store boxes or materials used to transport artwork to the library. Artwork must be delivered the first day of the exhibit and picked up on the last day.
All publicity relating to exhibits must be approved by the Library Director.
